2020 Taiwan Arbitration Week: Successful Conclusion

CAA Taipei and Taiwan Bar Association, in jointly hosting the “Taiwan Arbitration Week (TAW)” in Taichung between 12-16 October 2020 concluded with great success, attracting legal practitioners, academics and professionals across Taiwan, to further promote ADR mechanisms and deepen understanding of current developments of arbitration within the local arbitration community.
 
Held for the first time, TAW included a series of events over the five days. The opening ceremony began with the keynote speech by Justice Lin, Jiun-Yi on 12 October at Windsor Hotel Taichung, explaining how the government assists and supervises the arbitration system by addressing Judicial Yuan Interpretation No. 591 and its legal implications to arbitration practice in Taiwan. Other events include arbitration-related forums and seminars conducted by experienced arbitrators and co-hosted by universities and various associations. The closing ceremony took place on 16 October at the Lin Hotel Taichung, and ended with a closing speech by Mr. Nigel N. T. Li, the President of CAAI (CAA International Arbitraiton Centre) Court of Arbitration, on the latest CAA draft amendment to the Arbitration Law of ROC, concerning current issues surrounding the Arbitration Law and proposed amendments for greater internationalization.
 
Taiwan Arbitration Week marks a new milestone in Taiwan's arbitration development. CAA endeavors to continually host similar events by inviting international arbitration communities, organizations, and local bar associations to participate in future conferences and symposiums that strengthens the existing foundation ADR mechanisms in Taiwan for the practice of international and domestic arbitration.
