Call for Papers

2021 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation

The Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei (CAA) and the Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy, College of Law, National Taiwan University (ACWH) are to jointly host the “2021 Taipei International Conference on Arbitration and Mediation” in October, 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan. Considering the various travel restrictions due to the pandemic, this year we are planning a hybrid conference. To ensure effective interaction between onsite and online participants, there will be 3 sessions to be held on 3 designated dates around mid/late October and each session for 2 hours. Arbitration experts and scholars are welcome to provide unpublished academic papers and case studies on any one of the following topics:

Topic 1: Due process as a ground for annulment or non-enforcement of arbitral awards
- What is the extent of judicial deference to arbitral discretion? Do courts adopt different tests or standards for due process?
- What is the minimum standard of due process in light of recent cases of serious violation resulting in annulment or non-enforcement?
- Whether and how arbitral institutions can assist with managing due process paranoia?
- How has COVID-19 affected due process (e.g. remote hearings and e-arbitration)?

Topic 2: Ethics in international arbitration
- Whose and what conduct should be regulated? By whom and how?
- Current and controversial ethical issues (e.g. arbitrator disclosure and withdrawal; party confidentiality; hot-tubbing and witness conferencing)
